The recent Supreme Court ruling on Arizona’s SB1070 had some of its supporters claiming victory and its opponents fearing more agony.  While the discussion and disseminations will continue for some time, this month, we ask what has it changed for the people who will be affected, directly and indirectly?

Given the history of the Supreme Court and its’ many race based decisions, how will the struggle to maintain dignity and justice play out? How did it play out in the past?

Our show tonight will be looking at these and other questions that have not yet been asked much less answered.

Our guests tonight will include Dr. Alfonso Gonzales, Assistant Professor, Political Science at Lehman College in New York. Dr. Gonzales's scholarly interests focus on Latino and Latin American politics, migration control, deportation, human rights, transnational gangs, and migrant social movements in the U.S., Mexico, and Central America. He has published in the International Journal of Latino Studies, the North American Congress on Latin America-Report on the Americas, and with the Institute for Policy Studies in Washington, D.C. His research has been used in Federal immigration proceedings on behalf of Mexican and Central American asylum.

Other guests are Carlos Garcia, the director of Puente Arizona, and Diana Perez-Ramirez an organizer at Puente Arizona. Puente Arizona is part of the global movement for migrant justice and human rights. As a grassroots community-based group Puente promotes justice, non-violence, interdependence and human dignity. Puente Arizona works to empower the community and build bridges by working collaboratively with various organizations and individuals.
