Defund ICE & CBP End of the Year Action

NEW YORK, NY - On Tuesday, December 12 from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm, New York based Families for Freedom will host a series of actions outside of Senator Chuck Schumer’s district office demanding Congress reject Biden’s supplemental funding request, that includes $8.7 billion for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP), to drastically increase the surveillance, enforcement, and detention of immigrants in the interior of the country and at the border. These actions are in partnership with the Detention Watch Network.

New reports indicate that the Biden administration has signaled willingness to use immigrants as bargaining chips to push through his October funding request. Negotiations in discussion would effectively implement an asylum ban by creating near-impossible barriers to applying for asylum, drastically expand rapid deportation proceedings, and undermine humanitarian and other forms of parole.

NEW YORK, NY- Today, New York based Families for Freedom hosted a series of actions outside of Senator Chuck Schumer’s district office demanding Congress reject Biden’s supplemental funding request, that includes $8.7 billion for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP), to drastically increase the surveillance, enforcement, and detention of immigrants in the interior of the country and at the border. These actions are in partnership with the Detention Watch Network.

We persist in strongly urging Congress to firmly reject the complete supplemental request, as it solely contributes to the dehumanization of individuals. We call on the Biden Administration to put an end to exploiting human lives for political advantage—enough is enough; it's both disgusting and reprehensible”, said Christiana Adebiyi, Community Organizer at Families for Freedom

“We continue to demand that Congress firmly reject the entire supplemental request, which will only serve to fuel the cruel and inhumane detention, enforcement, and deportation systems. We demand the Biden Administration cease sacrificing immigrant lives for political gain and reject any dehumanizing concessions that would destroy asylum and the safety of thousands of migrants,” said Gabriela Viera, Senior Advocacy Manager at Detention Watch Network.

The action highlighted the critical need for our elected officials to redirect taxpayer dollars into education, housing for all income levels, climate resilient infrastructure and health care that supports our communities overall rather than the continued targeting, detention and deportation of our immigrant friends, neighbors and coworkers. Families for Freedom believes that by engaging in peaceful and informative actions, we can make a significant impact on shaping the decisions made by our elected representatives. We encourage community members, activists, and concerned citizens to join in these efforts to voice their concerns and advocate for a just and equitable allocation of resources.
