[July 25, 2022] Rally Calling for the Supreme Court and Biden Administration to Rethink the Recent Overturning of Roe vs. Wade
[New York, NY] - Families For Freedom will collectively bring dozens of people together and hold a mass rally at the Washington Square Park, in New York City, NY, on Thursday, July 28. To honor women's rights and decisions, the mass rally aims to protest against the overturning of the Roe vs. Wade Supreme Court Case, the landmark ruling that ended women’s right to abortion and proper healthcare. Thursday’s rally is just one of many protests taking place across the country; for the past two weeks, thousands of people around the East and West Coasts have set up demonstrations calling for the Supreme Court to rethink their infuriating verdict. Thursday’s day of action is only part of the campaign calling for the dismantling of the criminalization of women’s rights, which includes opposing the recent decisions made on the Roe vs. Wade court case.
On Friday, June 24, the Supreme Court in a 5-4 decision overturned the legal case of Roe vs. Wade, the landmark ruling that established the right to abortion for women in the U.S. in 1973. The court’s controversial ruling has given the individual states of America the power to set their own, separate abortion laws without the concern of running into difficulty with Roe, which had allowed for abortions to take place during the first two trimesters of pregnancy. As a result, almost half of the states are expected to restrict abortion access to women, which would affect millions of Americans around the country seeking reproductive healthcare. While the other states plan to maintain more liberal rules over abortion rights, the overturning of this key case has completely criminalized women’s decisions and destroyed their equality, as well as freedom, in the American society.
