Statement on CUNY’s Disclosed Investments and Institutional Complicity
NEW YORK, NY - Speaking on behalf of Janay Cauthen, Executive Director of Families for Freedom—a women-led, immigrant-defense organization directly fighting the devastations of detention and deportation—we stand in solidarity at the CUNY4Palestine Press Conference to directly confront institutional complicity and state violence.
Following CUNY’s September 2nd disclosure of its stock, bond, and contract holdings, the truth is laid bare: the university maintains active financial ties to weapons manufacturers and corporations facilitating land theft, violence, and genocide.
"As a women-led organization dedicated to fighting the uprooting and displacement of families, Families for Freedom is thoroughly disgusted by what is happening under this administration and within our city's public institutions," said Janay Cauthen, Executive Director. "The Big Apple is rotten to its core when public education dollars—meant to serve our local communities—are actively funding war profiteers and systemic oppression abroad. We refuse to sit back while institutional leaders turn a profit off human destruction."
Families for Freedom demands full divestment, total transparency, and immediate accountability across all public systems. We call on all community members, students, and organizers to take a stand, join the movement, and demand complete divestment.
